{"id":102,"date":"2019-03-07T15:48:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-07T14:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/relaunch.bebc-coaching.com\/?p=102"},"modified":"2021-01-01T15:32:54","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T14:32:54","slug":"die-botschaft-von-weihnachten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bettina-bonkas.com\/en\/die-botschaft-von-weihnachten.html","title":{"rendered":"Light can drive out darkness by Bettina Bonkas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #c16d93;\"><span style=\"color: #c33410;\">\u00a0\u2019<b>T<\/b>hat was another loud morning upstairs at yours.\u2019 \u2019 By the way, the little something for St. Nick in front of your door is from me.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0B<\/b>efore Marie could respond, Mr. Winter had already disappeared in his flat. Sometimes she could slap his face. He would always rant about her and Felix and then again he would put a lovely wrapped St. Nick in front of their door &#8211; they could do without it! Her friend had warned her of living under the same roof as their landlord. But nowhere else would they find such a great three-room flat in Bad Homburg located directly by the spa gardens and affordable at that. Right now, she didn\u2019t want to think about it; she hadn\u2019t picked up Felix earlier from kindergarten to spend her time brooding now.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>C<\/b>ome on, Felix, who\u2019s first at the park!\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>B<\/b>oth of them stormed off and dropped into the snow in the park. It had been snowing all day long and the park had its own charm. The lake was frozen and now, in the dawn, the lanterns were shining and everything was lit in a magic light. A solid blanket of snow gave the park a special peaceful appearance. Marie played with Felix in the snow and took photos of the winter wonderland in between.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>M<\/b>um, let\u2019s do a snowball fight\u2019, and upon saying so Felix threw the first snowball which didn\u2019t hit her but a passer-by.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>A<\/b>h, hit with full force.\u2019 The man held his hands theatrically in front of his heart and sank to the floor, formed a snowball at lightning speed which he threw at Felix. Before Marie could say knife, both of them were in the middle of a snowball fight that included her.<\/p>\n<p><b>L<\/b>ater, the three of them were sitting together in Marie and Felix\u2019s flat and drank hot chocolate. Yes, he was a stranger but it felt good. This first acquaintance with Max followed several more and finally Marie and Max became an item and he moved in.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>O<\/b>MG! Mr Winter was so annoying again in the morning. Another of Felix\u2019s toys was in the way. I\u2019m so fed up with him!\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>T<\/b>here was a short silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>W<\/b>ell, but you have to admit that Felix has a habit of leaving things lying around.\u2019 Max was looking at her with a grin on his face.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>Y<\/b>es, but he doesn\u2019t have to be so fussy. Besides, he can say it in a different tone of voice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>T<\/b>rue. But have you noticed that Mr. Winter isn\u2019t happy?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>N<\/b>o idea and being honest, I don\u2019t care. You\u2019re always so understanding, aren\u2019t you?\u2019 Marie was bugged as she usually was when Mr. Winter was concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>N<\/b>o, not always. But that\u2019s an important part of my job: to understand people. It makes my job easier, and also more interesting.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>Y<\/b>es, I know and that\u2019s why I love you but I find it really difficult to be understanding at times. Mr. Winter is just too much for me.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>M<\/b>ax was silent before he replied. \u201cWhen I realised that people don\u2019t react stupidly because they are stupid but because I\u2019ve triggered something in them unconsciously, that really helped me. My job as a teacher is to look behind the fa\u00e7ade of my pupils and bring out the best in them, and not let them provoke me. Well, things go better or worse.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>A<\/b>nd how can I get there?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>I<\/b>t\u2019s a process, Marie. Make yourself aware that Mr. Winter isn\u2019t doing it to make you angry or because he\u2019s stupid but because he\u2019s afflicted by something. I\u2019ve learned an important lesson in life: You never know what&#8217;s happening in someone&#8217;s life. It&#8217;s unfair to judge when you don\u2019t know the full story. That doesn\u2019t mean that you have to put up with everything. And be aware that the problem whatever it is, is his, not yours. You, on your part, can see for yourself what you can do better like make Felix tidy up more consistently.\u2019 Max fell silent. \u2019 If you feel that in your heart, you can be more generous with him. That will also make your life easier.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>P<\/b>ensively, Marie looked at him. Max\u2019s words stirred something within her.<\/p>\n<p><b>A<\/b> couple of days later Max was in Mr. Winter\u2019s flat to bring him back a tool he\u2019d borrowed. Max pointed at one of the photos which were standing on an old bureau.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>I<\/b>s that your son?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>Y<\/b>es.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>D<\/b>oes he live here in the area?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>H<\/b>e died six years ago.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>O<\/b>h, I\u2019m really sorry.\u2019 Max&#8217;s head tilted, he didn&#8217;t know what to say.<\/p>\n<p><b>M<\/b>ax\u2019s sincere sympathy did Mr. Winter good; and he didn\u2019t push him either. So, he finally told him about Anton, his only child, who reminded him of Max. Anton was a pediatrician and a therapist for children and like Max he loved his job. Mr. Winter had a very close relationship to his son. One day he didn\u2019t return from a bike tour, his brakes had failed. An unfortunate accident which had changed his life forever and which he didn\u2019t get over. Mr. Winter had been looking forward to grandchildren and now he was alone. He and his wife had fallen apart over the death of their only child.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>H<\/b>ave you ever thought about help?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>T<\/b>here\u2019s no use.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>Y<\/b>es, there is and your son would agree with me. And I think, he wouldn\u2019t want you to suffer so much.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>M<\/b>arie and Max invited Mr. Winter for Christmas Eve. They didn\u2019t know if he would come, he didn\u2019t know it himself. They would cook for four people at any rate.<\/p>\n<p><b>H<\/b>e came, a bit later, but he came. They spent a wonderful evening together with delicious food and funny games. He gave Felix a box of coloured pencils. Later, they sat at the table and Mr. Winter drew a story for him which the two of them made up together. Marie was utterly surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>I<\/b> didn\u2019t know that Mr. Winter can draw so well\u2019, she whispered to Max when the two of them where in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019<b>I<\/b> think, there are a few things we don\u2019t know from our landlord.\u2019 Max took Marie in his arms and smiled.<\/p>\n<p><b>I<\/b>t was late when Marie put Felix to bed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<b>M<\/b>um, I love Christmas.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<b>W<\/b>hy, because you get so nice presents?\u2019 Marie winked at Felix.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<b>Y<\/b>es, but Christmas makes people nice. I really like Mr. Winter now.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><b>M<\/b>arie had tears in her eyes when she held Felix close to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<i>Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
